Disaster Response Support
In response to COVID-19, Prince William County’s Office of Emergency Management tasked us to create the Community Feeding Taskforce (CFT), ensuring food access and sustainability throughout the county. Food insecurity rose 345% during the pandemic, according to a survey of 58 food distribution sites that existed before the pandemic. The Food Rescue added another 20 food distribution partners during 2020.
78 food distribution sites were supported because of our efforts every week, with 70% of the food distributed from the CFT and our food rescue program. In total, we provided over 12 million pounds of food in the first 12 months of our response. With local and/or federal funding (such as CARES), we can successfully support a jurisdiction’s disaster response in the following ways:
- Food Helpline Support
- GIS Food Distribution Map Updates
- Cold Storage Mitigation
- Bulk Food Procurement
- USDA Box Procurement
- Last-mile Distribution Logistics
- Volunteer Management
- Data Collection and Reporting
- Distribution Site Coordination
- Warehouse Operations
