Northern Virginia Food Rescue celebrated a milestone partnership in mid-July by marking the one year anniversary of receiving donations from the Fauquier Education Farm (FEF). FEF, which is a 501(c)(3) organization, was created in 2010. The FEF has a dual focus: offering agricultural education and growing produce for local food banks. The farm has donated almost 40,000 pounds of fresh produce to local food banks so far this season, and there is a lot more growing to be done! Starting in May, Northern Virginia Food Rescue has helped to rescue and deliver thousands of pounds of cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, summer squash, varieties of kale, lettuce, onions, garlic, peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini and cucumbers to partner organizations in Prince William, Fairfax and Fauquier. Over the coming months, we will help to rescue and distribute cantaloupe, watermelons, sweet potatoes, kale, winter squash, cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower. The farm is always looking for volunteers to help on weekday mornings with various harvesting and planting activities. Families are welcome!
